Problems with a Model 14

A few more Model 14 machines have come in and need restoration. Here are a few notes on problems encountered.

Paper tape advance is unreliable.

An unreliable paper tape advance mechanism was puzzling for days. Extreme close-ups of the mechanism disclosed the problem.

What's wrong with this picture?

Note that the machine on the left has a spring that's not present on the right. That's why the spacer mechanism of the machine on the right is intermittently failing.

So let's check the Model 14 adjustments manual.

The missing part is the Spacer Operating Lever Spring

.Checking the parts manual,

Needed: Teletype Part Number 75689, Spring, 1 each.

So a spring is needed, and then it will have to be installed in a hard to reach area.
